Following the introduction of the Horizon TV media gateway, UPC Nederland is now rolling out more features of the Horizon platform. The Horizon app for iPad and iPhones is now available for all UPC subscribers.
UPC is now in the process of installing the new Horizon boxes with the first customers. Until now, UPC subscribers could install the mediabox themselves and only if there were problems with the installation, a UPC service person would call in. With the Horizon box, the cabler sends an installer to make sure the home networks is capable of handling the many functionalities of the new platform.
Immediately following the Horizon announcement on Friday, September 7, the operator began making appointments with Horizon launch customers.
Part of the Horizon offer is the streaming service to laptops and PCs. Around 80 channels, including the premium Sport1 multiplex, are available via most browsers. Customers need to log in with their personal account to access the channels as well as the VOD and catch-up TV offer on their computer.
UPC also released the Horizon TV app in Apple’s App store on Thursday, September 13. This allows access to 80 streaming channels, as well as the on-demand offer on tablets and smartphones. Viewers can use the service in and around their homes and need a UPC broadband connection.
At a later stage, UPC will also release the Horizon Remote control app, which makes it possible to use an iPhone as remote control with the set-top.
