The Romanian public broadcaster TVR has announced that its thematic channel TVR Cultural will cease transmissions at the end of tomorrow (September 15).
In a statement, it says that Claudiu Saftiou, the president and CEO of TVR, ordered the measure on September 13 “in the context of the critical financial situation of TVR”.
The broadcaster adds that the decision is part of the implementation of the economic recovery programme for TVR, prepared in accordance with the provisions of an emergency government ordinance No 33/2012.
Many of the programmes until now broadcast by TVR Cultural will be moved to the public broadcaster’s second channel TVR 2.
TVR Cultural was launched in 2002 and has until now been the only cultural channel operating in Romania.
Its imminent closure was first announced by TVR last month.
