Virgin Media has announced plans to launch Virgin TV Anywhere, providing live streamed TV, video on demand content and advanced tools to manage planned recordings.
The new service, that mirrors an announcement by UPC in the Netherlands, will be available to all subscribers regardless of whether they have a TiVo set-top.
Virgin Media Anywhere will offer around 30 TV channels from across the genre base, as well as 2,000 hours of on demand content. Added extras include the ability to schedule recordings and share content via Facebook and Twitter.
The online tools include the remote management of content that customers have installed onto a TiVo receiver.
The Virgin TV Anywhere app (initially for iOS devices with others to follow) will also offer an exciting multiscreen experience for TiVo customers who will be able to access their TiVo box remotely or even use their device at home as a remote.
The app will be available to download free from the App store for Apple devices (iPad/iPhone/iPod touch) with other devices, including Android, set to follow in 2013.
