ZON is introducing a new feature on its IRIS service that enables customers to ‘travel back in time’ and watch programmes that have been broadcast over the last seven days.
Dubbed ‘Timewarp’ the Portuguese cablenet says the service is based on an Advanced Personal Cloud Recording technology that allows IRIS customers to automatically record every programme that has been broadcast on 77 channels on a remote disk for seven days (future upgrades will enable IRIS customers to choose which ones they prefer to store for more than seven days).
The NDS-developed technology does not need a set-top-box and a local disk. The recordings are stored in the “cloud”, in other words a remote virtual disk, so the customer does not need to worry about managing disk space in the set-top-box.
The IRIS platform has enabled ZON to cut through the current tough economic environment in Portugal.
Other innovations on available to IRIS customers include Restart TV, which allows customers to return to the beginning of a show in over 70 channels and ZON Online, a ‘Go’ style service available on the PC, iPad or smartphone.
