The Russian telco MTS has established a presence in the country’s Mari El Republic by acquiring Intercom for R90 million (€2.26 million).
Intercom, which accounts for 99% of the cable TV and 67% of the broadband internet markets in the Volga region, is based in Volzhsk, the second largest city in Mari El.
Debt free, it employs Fibre-to-the Building (FTTB) technology.
Commenting on the acquisition, Andrei Revkov, MTS director in the Volga, said that it was a logical step in the development of the company’s fixed services in the region.
