Chellomedia’s Dutch premium sports multiplex Sport1 is launching a dedicated football channel Sport1 Voetbal on Sunday, August 25.
The move follows an earlier introduction of dedicated tennis and golf channels on the multiplex. Meanwhile, the main Sport1 channel will be renamed Sport1 Select.
The full premium sports offer now consists of Sport1 Select, Sport1 Voetbal, Sport1 Golf, Sport1 Tennis, Sport1 Extra 1 and Sport1 Extra 2.
Although Sport1 does not have access to Dutch premier league football – this is held exclusively by Eredivisie Live, recently acquited by Fox International Chaannels – Chellomedia has enough football rights to fill a 24-hour channel.
The broadcaster recently acquired the Brazilian competition and American Major League Soccer. Sport1 already owns rights to English Premier League, Spanish Primera Division, and the UEFA Champions League. Recently rights to the Italian Serie A and the French Ligue 1 were extended.
