LaCie RikikiTV unlocks USB recordings for TVs

August 18, 2012 19.45 Europe/London By Robert Briel

LaCie has introduced the RikikiTV, a hard drive that unlocks a compatible TV’s USB recording features. The devices turns most modern flat TVs into a fully-fledged PVR.

With the RikikiTV, viewers can pause and replay live TV, plus schedule and instantly record their favourite shows. It easily mounts out-of-sight with an included universal clip. “The RikikiTV is the perfect companion to the millions of TV’s with USB recording expected to sell in Europe this year,” according to the company.

“LG has recognised the growing trend for USB record functionality among millions of household in Europe,” said Julien Danigo, group leader product marketing home electronics at LG Electronics France.

“We are pleased to see manufacturers like LaCie develop complimentary technology like the RikikiTV to bring this functionality to life. LaCie’s RikikiTV is a convenient accessory that will capture hours of entertainment for our customers.”

The RikikiTV features scheduled recording and capacity to store up to 240 hours of programming. The RikikiTV also allows for instant recording to the drive. Once recorded, the user can access the library with the TV remote.

The USB-powered RikikiTV ships with a universal clip that mounts the drive and cable behind the TV. The clip plus the fact that the drive doesn’t require a power cable means that clutter is kept to a minimum and off the entertainment center.

A list of compatible TVs can be found on the LaCie website.

The RikikiTV is available in Europe through the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Storage Partners starting at the suggested retail price of €99.99 (In the UK £84.99)
