The Czech channel Metropol TV will start broadcasting nationally from October.
Quoting Kamil Levinsky, the head of the national transmission company CRa, E15 reports that it will employ the country’s third multiplex and follow in the footsteps of the music-based Ocko, which switched to national broadcasting last month.
The multiplex also carries the channels Prima love, Zak, Genus, Jihoceska televize and – from this autumn – V1.
The upgrading of Ocko and Metropol TV to national services should help CRa compete more effectively with the fourth multiplex, which is operated by Digital Broadcasting, backed by Radim Parizek and TV Nova co-founder and former head Vladimir Zelezny.
Metropol TV was initially a Prague-only service but subsequently expanded to the cities of Brno, Ostrava and Plzen. It has been available on the third multiplex since earlier this year.
