Unitymedia KabelBW merger completed

July 3, 2012 09.13 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Liberty Global has now completed the merger of its two German subsidiaries, Unitymedia and KabelBW into a single organisation.

The two brands, Unitymedia for Hessen and North Rhine-Westphalia and Kabel BW for Baden-Wuerttemberg, will continue to exist, but the merged company will be known as Unitymedia KabelBW. The operator will be headquartered in Cologne.

“With the merger of Unitymedia and KabelBW we are now Germany’s fastest growing telecommunications provider,” said Lutz Schüler, CEO of Unitymedia KabelBW. “With our superior broadband cable, we drive to compete with traditional telecommunications companies more vigorously and lay the foundation for future growth.”

The management consists of Dr Herbert Leifker (CCO, previously in the same position at Unitymedia), Uwe Barmann (CTO, previously at the same position at KabelBW) was, and the two previous Unitymedia co-chief financial officers), Jens Mueller and Jon Garrison.

The former CEO of KabelBW, Harald Rösch, CFO Holger Püchert and Chief Marketing Officer Christoph Niederberger are leaving the company.

Unitymedia KabelBW now reaches a total of 12.5 million households in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Wuerttemberg. It has around 7 million customers, 6.7 million TV homes (including 2.1 million digital TV homes), and about 1.9 million broadband internet and 2 million telephony customers.
