RTS, the French language division of Swiss public broadcaster, will be starting a pilot with HbbTV and second screen apps before the end of the year.
The German and Italian language divisions of the broadcaster will follow sometime in 2013.
Negotiations are under way with the various distribution platforms to carry the additional HbbTV signalling with the channels on their networks. An agreement with Quickline has been reached, while talks are still ongoing with cabler UPC Cablecom and IPTV provider Swisscom.
The initial HbbTV offer of the Swiss pubcaster will consist of an extended teletext service, with news and sports, as well as a catch-up TV service and on-demand content.
Both RTS and SRG are now also trialling second screen apps with a number of programmes.
