The EBU’s Beyond HD project will this week produce stereoscopic 3D test sequences at 1080p/50 and higher frame rates.
Full resolution content is being produced at 1080p/50 per eye. The EBU work at the RAI facility in Turin is being supported by ARRI, Kamerawerk, Technicolor and TV Logic amongst others.
ARRI cameras will be set to a much higher frame rate of 120 frames per second and sequences with high motion will be shot. This will allow the EBU and its Members to study the question of higher frame rates for improved motion portrayal, which is particularly relevant for sports content.
It follows last week’s work on the creation of 4k test sequences, when the highlights included outdoor shoots around the city of Turin and at the famous Borgo Medievale castle.
The sequences will be used for the creation of content that will help test the new 4k codecs.
