All thematic satellite channels broadcasting via Eutelsat were invited to submit their applications for The Eutelsat TV Awards 2012, the only satellite TV contest in Europe, which celebrates its 15th edition.
Previously named Hot Bird TV Awards, the prize, created in 1998 by Eutelsat, is an annual event promoting the finest broadcasting in the satellite thematic landscape, distinguishing excellence and innovation. The prize has gained more importance and credibility over the years, extending outside Europe. In 2011 it saw the record entry of 160 channels.
This edition has new features, such as the new name of the competition, which encompasses the inclusive character of the competition open to channels broadcasting from all Eutelsat satellites.
The second is the introduction of an Innovation Award, which encourages and recognizes the efforts by an individual channel to increase its audience and viewer awareness through initiatives such as multi-screen viewing, VOD, catch-up or 3D. This award is about how technology trends and new products are shaping programming-making, scheduling and development strategies.
Finally, the location of the prize-giving ceremony has also changed: the event, which every year is attended by 250 broadcasters, journalists, representatives of institutions and the most relevant exponents of the satellite TV environment, is on Friday, November 30, at the Hilton Molino Stucky Hotel, in Venice, Italy.
