Belgacom is planning to acquire the rights from Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) allowing it to become its own system integrator for its complete multi-screen IPTV platform in order to further increase agility on bringing innovative and differentiating service offers to market.
Since the launch of Belgacom TV back in 2005, Belgacom has been working closely together with NSN to build a scalable end-to-end platform integrating leading media technology and software enabling a strongly recognized convergent ipTV offer. Today, the solution serves over 1.2 million subscribers over Belgacom’s high performance broadband network.
The agreement with Nokia Siemens Network comprises the rights for Belgacom to further develop the platform and a transfer of key competences in Belgium which are complementary to Belgacom’s well-developed internal expertise. As part of the planned transaction, approximately 25 employees in Belgium are expected to transfer to Belgacom.
The change should allow Belgacom to quickly respond to customer needs and to frequently release unique and compelling entertainment products, services and applications.
The transaction is subject to relevant regulatory approvals and fulfilment of customary closing conditions. It will also be accompanied by relevant consultations with works councils or employees, according to local law.
