ANGA CABLE 2012 – Cologne. Abox42 showed its IP OTT platform B12, which can be integrated into traditional cable infrastructures, enabling the Eutelsat Kabelkiosk Choice platform.
KabelKiosk choice with a variety of OTT services (including VOD, programme guide, app portal) designed and developed for network operators, is presented as showcase on the ABOX42 IP platform B12 under the marketing name “choice upgrader”.
The B12 platform is a solution for all network operators and new OTT service providers, which do want to get full control over the user experience of its customers by providing an own OTT set top box as enabler for new OTT services and business models. This way a network operator can upgrade all existing customers (digital and analogue TV watchers) with new OTT services such as catch-Up TV, VOD and more.
The convergence of traditional cable networks and new IP Services offers a huge challenge for network operators. Abox42´s platform concept was launched with the smart TV upgrade box VideoWeb TV which offers a market proven and low cost STB platform including the latest internet technologies to run over 100 different OTT services.
B12 was designed for fast moving OTT providers, internet companies and cable operators, which want to roll out interactive services and new business models based on latest internet technologies. It offers short project cycles, short production lead times and includes lifecycle management, ongoing software maintenance and service updates.
B12 includes latest hardware technology and software components like HTML4/5/CE-HTML browser, QT-client, HbbTV, DLNA and an advanced OTT media player. In addition, B12 supports the latest Hollywood approved streaming technologies (e.g. Smooth Streaming, HLS, BitBand, Mpeg DASH) and market proven DRM solutions like DRM10, PlayReady, HLS-DRM and Secure Media.
The B12 platform already runs over 100 OTT applications like VOD-Services, catch-Up TV Services, Online Video Recording, IPTV/OTT “freeTV” as well as OTT pay-TV services and web-browser functionality.
“Based on our three years experience in the consumer electronic market with OTT set top boxes like Smart TV trendsetting VideoWeb TV and running more than 100 OTT services on our STBs, B12 is our next generation, low-cost platform for the OEM market”, said Oliver Soellner, VP business development EMEA of Abox42 GmbH. “Interactive TV, OTT pay-TV, media portals, digital content, Blockbuster per VOD, multiple applications and services via internet are right a huge business opportunity for cable operators.“
