On Thursday, June 21, the Belgian cable operator Telenet and Norkring, owner of the DTT transmitter network in the Flemish part of Belgium, will announce their plans for DTT in Belgium.
During a scheduled press conference, Bart Bosmans, CEO of Norkring Belgium, will talk about the technical possibilities of digital terrestrial television (DTT). Inge Smidts, SVP residential markets Telenet, will explain the commercial roll-out of the service.
Telenet owns the licence to commercially operate the multiplexes to consumers, while Norkring Belgium are the owners of the digital terrestrial transmitter networks for TV and radio in Flanders and Brussels.
Last May, Norkring Belgium announced its plan to upgrade its network to the DVB-T2 standard. The work will start in the first quarter of 2013.
At the moment, Norkring Belgium operates the mux of public broadcaster VRT under a managed service. Norkring Belgium owns the licences for additional commercial muxes.
