Netgem to supply Viaplay box in Sweden

June 12, 2012 09.43 Europe/London By Julian Clover

ANGA Cable 2012 – Cologne. Netgem is to provide Viasat with a hybrid set-top box for its Viaplay service.

The device combines a range of over-the-top premium channels with free to air terrestrial channels and the full Viaplay online service in one single set-top box.

Viaplay replaced ViasatOnDemand in February 2011 and was subsequently made available on LG broadband-enabled TVs. An application has also been developed for Android enabled smartphones and tablet devices. All use a single login.

The box is a customised version of the Netgem Multifunction hybrid STB and also uses Netgem’s award-winning middleware to provision the enhanced Viaplay service and the linear channels. The STB offers Ethernet, Wi-Fi and HDMI connectivity to access and share multimedia content stored on the home network and also offers UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) for simple connection between the units in the household.
