Italian based Liquid TV is launching Smartkey TV, an HDMI dongle with Android Ice Cream 4.0. July will see the start of a premium VOD service.
The pocket-sized dongle connects to the HDMI port of any regular TV and converts it into a Smart TV. It’s basically a fully functioning micro-computer the size of a thumb which runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) much like today’s latest smartphones.
The processing power in the SmartKey TV will allow the user to display Android on your TV turning it into a mega-sized tablet (just imagine a 50 inch iPad).
Users can download apps from the Google Play Store to stream videos, play games, connect with friends on Facebook, catch up on news, do some work or simply surf the web.
It will also be possible to attach a video camera to do Skype video-calls, and receive VoIp calls, play games, online live video game streaming, DLNA Client server, and much more.
The company will also launch a premium VOD service in Italy and across the rest of Europe with around 1,000 titles.
The Smartkey TV will be available in two different versions from July. The Smartkey TV Standard package will cost €99 (with national shipping cost and tax included); the Smartkey TV Advanced package will cost €119 (remote with motion control sensor and air remote).
