ANGA Cable 2012 – Cologne. As Germany prepares to deploy the world’s first DVB-C2 digital cable service, visitors to the ANGA Cable can see demonstrations of DVB-C2 for digital cable systems and DVB-T2.
The demo for DVB-T2 highlights the robustness and flexibility of the standard. It consists of the transmission of four HD streams at 40 Mbit/s in 8 MHz with a DekTec DVB-T2 modulator, and being received by a DVB-T2 iDTV as well as a DVB-T2 set-top box from Vestel. DVB-T2 is now the world’s fastest growing DTT standard.
The DVB-C2 demonstration shows how the standard is experiencing growing support from manufacturers with the development of new products. Visitors to the stand can see the latest offerings in a demonstration in cooperation with Sony and Kabel Deutschland.
The demonstration will include a Sony DVB-C2 iDTV and also from Sony, the world’s first DVB-C2 silicon evaluation board (demodulator). DVB-C is widely deployed around the globe and as markets move to deliver innovative new services including multichannel HDTV, VOD, and other interactive services, the large capacity increase and the improved operational flexibility of DVB-C2 will be of great benefit to cable operators wishing to upgrade their systems.
DVB is also presenting a technology panel titled ‘Hot Topics in DVB’ in the official conference programme that takes place on Tuesday, 12 June from 15:00 – 16:15.
The session, conducted in English, is hosted by DVB’s Executive Director, Peter Siebert and features the following presentations: DVB-C2 by Christoph Schaaf, VP new technologies, Kabel Deutschland; CI Plus by Paul Szucs, senior manager, technology standards, Sony Europe; DVB-T2 by Stefan Krueger, head of broadcast platforms and services, LBPS, Media Bbroadcast GmbH; and Easy Use of DVB with Logical Channel Numbering by Dr. Piero Kirchner, CTO, Blankom Antennentechnik GmbH.
