The Russian pre-pay DTH platform Platforma HD and its sister service Platforma DV are to cease broadcasting on July 1.
The news has been posted in a statement on the company’s website which gives no explanation as to why the closure will take place.
However, one local report says that customers of Platforma HD will be offered a free replacement for their reception equipment and an annual subscription to the full package of channels, some of which are in HD, offered by the leading Russian DTH platform Tricolor TV.
Platforma HD was launched in August 2008 and, as its name suggests, carried only HD channels.
Its sister service Platforma DV was launched soon afterwards, with both being distributed by Eurobird at 9 degrees East and via cable networks.
Take up of both services was low, with Platforma HD reported to have had only 50,000 customers at the end of 2010.
