Eurosport goes 3D on Astra

June 5, 2012 08.23 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The Eurosport Group will deliver live 3D broadcasts of two major sporting events in the summer across Europe via the Astra satellite system.

The French Open and the London 2012 Olympic Games will be broadcast live on Eurosport 3D from the Astra 19.2 degrees East orbital position.

Both events will be transmitted via a transponder formerly utilised for analogue transmissions in Germany, and available to millions of European homes that have their dishes pointed at Astra 19.2 degrees East and whose owners subscribe to one of Eurosport’s distribution platforms, such as Sky and Virgin Media in the UK and have 3D compatible televisions.

“Making high quality 3D sporting events available to a wider audience and producing compelling 3D content will help spur the growth of the 3D industry. We are proud that SES satellites will be used by our long-standing partners to deliver live action from the French Open and the London Olympics this summer,” said Norbert Hölzle, SVP sales Europe at SES.
