Luminis launches Apps4All concept

June 4, 2012 08.43 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Dutch based software solutions provider Luminis has announced that the launch of a wide range of apps for the travel show 3 Op Reis marks the introduction of its Luminis Apps4All concept.

The 3 Op Reis app, which can be downloaded for free, was developed jointly by Luminis and Dutch public broadcaster BNN and supports the prime-time TV travel show 3 Op Reis.

Contrary to developing a native app for each platform separately, the Luminis Apps4All concept, which is based on HTML5 /CSS3, is a single source solution whereby the same code works on all supported devices.

“This approach also enables us to effectively support any future devices coming to market,” the company said in a statement. “Responsive design techniques have been used in developing the apps, which implies that the respective apps will function optimally on any screen, whatever the resolution or size.”

The 3OpReis App, which can already be downloaded by Apple iPhone users since September 2011, is now also available on Android- phones and -tablets and on the iPad. Additionally the app can be downloaded from the Samsung App Store for viewing on Samsung’s selection of Smart TV’s and Blu-ray devices and furthermore 3OpReis is available on Google TV.

“Implementing the Luminis Apps4All concept is a cost effective way for content owners to maximize the reach of their respective viewing audiences”, stated Harro Vons, project manager at Luminis. “Linear broadcasts still attract a major share of the total viewing audience, however On Demand viewing via connected devices is quickly gathering steam. Adapting to these consumer behavioral changes, means that the media industry can benefit from this trend substantially. Our Apps4All concept enables content owners to display their content on multiple platforms and devices in a very short timeframe.”

Luminis has developed the content management system for the RTL Nieuws 365 app, which was launched last February.
