Channel 4 has announced multiplatform coverage of a range of sports at the Paralympic Games. Three dedicated channels are confirmed as being available on the Sky platform in both high definition and standard definition as well as online at channel4.com
The broadcaster said it “also expected” the streams to launch on cable through Virgin Media.
Channel 4 has also announced the launch of dedicated Paralympics apps for both mobile and tablet devices – compatible with iOS and Android. The apps will enable users to review the latest Paralympic action with comprehensive catch up clips of events, while the tablet app will also allow users to watch live streamed action.
The agreement with Sky follows a similar deal struck between the satcaster and the BBC over the London 2012 Olympics.
The channels, which are being created specifically for the Paralympics, will launch into Sky’s Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and show sports including athletics, swimming and basketball.
The six new free-to-air channels – three HD and three SD – will be added to the Sports section of Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide from the 29th of August, and will be showing Channel 4’s coverage of the games in its entirety.
