Following deployment of the CI Plus modules in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland, UPC Austria has now also started offering CI Plus to its digital TV subscribers.
With the CI Plus modules, viewers do not need to rent a set-top box from the operator, but can receive the DVB-C signals directly on their TV set. UPC offers the modules on a rental basis. The monthly fee is set at €3.00 for the module only. This compares with the €4.00 rental fee in Germany and the Netherlands.
Customers need a CI Plus compatible TV set, which includes models from Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, LG, Loewe, Sharp, and Bang & Olufsen. The UPC Austria website gives a full overview of all compatible receivers (in German only, click on brand name for further details).
