Film1 and MGM sign pay-TV partnership

May 25, 2012 10.16 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Chellomedia’s premium Dutch movie channel Film1 and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios have signed an exclusive agreement on pay-TV and SVOD. The multiyear partnership, which commenced on April 1, 2012 but has only just been announced, allows Film1 pay-TV viewers access to MGM’s latest movie releases and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer library.

As the sole provider in the Netherlands, Film1, Netherlands’ leading film channel bouquet, will offer titles such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, 21 Jump Street and Zookeeper. Film1 will also make large segments of the James Bond titles available for pay-TV viewers, including Skyfall. These and other movies will be shown on Film1’s linear channels and on Film1 On Demand, as part of a Film1 subscription. Film1 subscribers will be able to access the Film1 service on any IP device including the MGM movies.

Chellomedia, the international content division of Liberty Global, Inc. and an international producer and distributor of TV channels, has a long standing partnership with MGM. Chellomedia operates a 55-channel portfolio with leading media companies, including MGM. The MGM channels showcase handpicked offerings from Hollywood’s largest modern film library, comprising around 4,100 titles, as well as content from other world class studios and distributors.

“Our exclusive partnership will enable Film1 subscribers in the Netherlands to experience all the great movies from the magical MGM library and MGM’s latest releases,’’ said Casper Keller, general manager Film1. “We are constantly working on further enhancement of our high quality offerings. Earlier this year Film1 launched Film1 Series, which introduces the Dutch audience to popular international TV series, and Film1 Sundance, a combination of Sundance Channel’s strong independent offering and Film1’s own independent acquisitions.”

“MGM’s extensive library and new releases are a perfect fit for Chellomedia – offering their subscribers the best available content that can be programmed across all channel platforms,” said Chris Ottinger, president, international television distribution and acquisitions, MGM. “We look forward to our renewed partnership with Chellomedia and bringing our premium entertainment to the viewers in the Netherlands.”
