BUCHAREST BUSINESS BREAKFAST. The Romanian market is large enough to support four to five online on demand services, according to Mirek Smyk, managing director, MSCG.
However, such services are only likely to start having an impact on the Romanian marketplace in a couple of years time and there could be new entrants.
According to Smyk, new online video initiatives, including Voyo from the CME group, enhanced video news with UGC from the Antena Group, SVOD from Romtelecom, an enhanced video sports portal from RCS&RDS and services by DirectOne are being developed.
However, public awareness about them is still limited. Smyk also said that in his view local broadcasters are the best positioned to deliver online video, followed by pure OTT players.
He concluded by saying that in his view the penetration of tablets is not sufficient to threaten any cable or satellite viewership over the next couple of years.
