Romania ended 2011 with 3.26 million fixed broadband internet access connections, or 4% more than in mid-2011 and 9% more than a year earlier, according to data released by the regulator ANCOM.
However, within this figure the number of coaxial cable connections fell by 9% year-on-year to 400,000.
The vast majority (89%) of connections used FTTx technology, and 2.95 million of the 3.26 million connections were used by residential subscribers.
Revenues from internet services amounted to RON2 billion (€450 million) in 2011, or 4% more than a year and representing 13% of the telecom market in Romania.
