The decision of incumbent telcos to launch TV services continues to be vindicated. The latest operator to see IPTV shore up residential revenues is Portugal Telecom, where the Meo triple play offer increased RGUs increased by 9.6% year-over-year, reaching 3,647,000, with pay-TV and broadband accesses already accounting for 54% of total residential retail accesses as at March 31, 2012.
In all residential revenues grew by 4.6% to €176.9 million.
Pay-TV residential customers increased by 63,000, reaching 1,035,000, up by 26.6% on the year, while broadband residential customers increased by 31 thousand to 942 thousand, up by 13.3% year-over-year.
First quarter pay-TV customers were up by 26.9% year-over-year to 1,111,000
PT’s triple-play customers (voice, broadband and pay-TV) grew by 32.0% in the past 12 months having reached 728,000 in Q1, an additional 49,000 net ads on the quarter.
