Canal+ France, which includes Canal+ Group pay-TV operations in mainland France, overseas territories and Africa, saw a record net growth of 211,000 subscribers year-on-year in the first quarter and an increase in ARPU in mainland France despite a rise in VAT rates.
However, Canal+ France revenues amounted to €1,030 million in the first quarter, a modest €22 million more than in the same period last year.
Canal+ Group revenues grew strongly in other territories and as a whole amounted to €1,232 million in Q1, a 3.4% increase year-on-year.
EBITA stood at €236 million, compared to €265 million, most of which was due to a shift in the scheduling of premium content such as football and drama, which amounted to €30 million.
Within France, Vivendi’s SFR saw its Neufbox Evolution offer add 122,000 subscribers in the first quarter, taking the total to 711,000.
Its convergent multi-play offer (quad play) meanwhile had 1.4 million customers at the end of the first quarter.
