Romtelecom ended the first quarter with 1,190,721 subscribers to its DTH, IPTV and cable services, or 11.8% more than a year earlier.
At the same time, its broadband subscriber total rose by 8.9% year-on-year to 1,156,440.
The Romanian telco noted strong increases in its revenues for TV and broadband services in the quarter, up by 31% and 20% respectively, offsetting falls in fixed voice and equipment sales.
In what was a difficult economic environment, its total revenues for fixed line services in the quarter amounted to €160.2 million, or 3.7% less than a year earlier.
However, EBITDA was up by 82% to €40.4 million and an operating income of €13.8 million contrasted with a loss of €16.7 million in Q1 last year.
Romtelecom’s TV subscriber total was boosted partly by subscriber acquisitions in the middle of last year and the company benefited from the promotion of cost-effective customised bundles.
Its cable operation saw its subscriber total rise by 11% year-on-year but the company as a whole was hit by a sharp increase in TV content costs.
Separately, Romtelecom’s backer OTE ended the first quarter with 63,497 IPTV and DTH subscribers, or 12.5% more than a year earlier.
Its revenues in Q1 amounted to €1,180.2 million (-3.6% year-on-year), EBITDA €417.5 million (+6.2%) and net income €306.6 million.
