Following a slow start, Magyar Telekom’s IPTV service has really begun to take off, ending the first quarter with 256,434 subscribers, or 75.5% more than a year earlier.
This put it just behind the telco’s satellite TV operation in terms of take-up, its 284,379-subscriber total being 8.7% higher than a year earlier.
With the number of cable subscribers slipping by 23.6% to 262,398 as many migrated to IPTV, Magyar Telekom had a total of 803,211 TV customers at the end of Q1, up by 6.9% on a year earlier.
Blended TV ARPU meanwhile stood at HUF3,061 (€10.56), a modest increase of 1.6% year-on-year.
In other markets, its Macedonian subsidiary saw its IPTV subscriber total rise by 26.2% year-on-year to 41,657 in the first quarter, while in Montenegro IPTV take-up grew by 19.3% to 49,321 over the same period.
Magyar Telekom as a whole saw its revenues increase by 2.9% in Q1 to HUF142.5 billion, while EBITDA fell by 3.1% to HUF51.6 billion.
