Viewers in Poland who watch TV services on their PCs, tablets or smartphones are not required to pay receiver licence fees.
The surprise news was given by the country’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), quoted by Gazeta Prawna, and runs counter to a statement made by Jan Dworak, the Council’s president, only a few months ago.
It has been pointed out that the law related to receiver licence fees does not define the concept of a TV or radio receiver.
Instead, it says that fees have to be paid by every person who has a TV or radio receiver capable of picking up programmes right away.
However, the KRRiT is of the view that PCs, tablets and smartphones cannot be categorised as receivers as their primary function is not to pick up TV or radio services.
