Telecom Italia said its board of directors will meet on May 9 to examine options regarding its controlling stake in Telecom Italia Media, according to Reuters.
The statement followed media reports that Italian publishing and media groups DeBenedetti (L’Espresso) and Cairo Editore are the favourites to acquire Telecom Italia Media. TIM has a market capitalisation of about €210 million and net debt of almost €139 million.
Cairo Coomunications is the company that sells advertising time on TIM’s channels.
Tunisian media businessman Tarak Ben Ammar is also very interested while Qatar had expressed an interest.
The media unit of Telecom Italia is the owner of national broadcasters La7 and MTV Italia.
