Sky Italia has invested close to €9.2 billion since its arrival on the Italian market in 2004. The cumulative expenditure has resulted in a benefit to the Italian economy estimated at €19.2 billion.
The figures are taken from a new study by the Rosselli Foundation’s Institute of Media Economics. They show that Sky’s participation in the pay-TV market has added an additional 121,000 positions in Italy, with Sky itself taking on around 21,000 new workers.
It is expected that despite the economic crisis around €100 million will be invested during 2012, double the figure for 2011.
Sky Italia has 5 million subscribers, compared to 2.9 million for the terrestrial-based Mediaset Premium.
