Following reports that the Italian government is to abandon the DTT beauty content, the Finance Committee of Italy’s House of Representatives has approved the amendment tabled by the government to cancel the ‘beauty contest’.
The Italian government said it will call the auction within the next 120 days, based on terms and conditions to be defined by the country’s telecommunications regulator (AgCom).
The party of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, the People of Freedom (PdL), has described the new plan as “a mess”, claiming that it will exclude Berlusconi-owned broadcaster Mediaset, as well as state broadcaster RAI.
The European Commission welcomed the auction plan, saying it would boost competitiveness in the Italian TV sector.
