Plans by the Russian Television and Broadcasting Network (RTRS) to encrypt DTT signals have been criticised by the country’s leading broadcasters.
Vedomosti reports that the latter’s top managers have written to the Ministry of Economic Development arguing that the move would restrict viewers’ access to digital TV services.
Russia has opted for the DVB-T2 standard for digital terrestrial broadcasting and by 2015 the entire country should be able to receive the first multiplex, consisting of nine channels.
Eight of these are federal services and have to be available to all viewers.
