Russia’s VimpelCom, which operates under the brand name Beeline, has opened a tender for a Content Delivery Network (CDN).
According to AKTR and digit.ru, the winner will be announced this summer and the network operational by the end of the year or in early 2013.
Furthermore, the network will be used to distribute VimpelCom’s own media content and also leased out to other operators. Several other companies in Russia already have CDNs.
They include Megafon, which has deployed one with the help of CDNetworks, and MTS, which rents a CDN from NGENIX to distribute its Omlet.ru service.
J’son & Partners estimates that the CDN market in Russia was worth R7 billion (€180.4 million) in 2011 and predicts that it is likely to grow by more than 30% a year.
