MIPTV 2012 – CANNES. The YahLive satellite service expects to reach 50 HD channels by the end of the year and eventually hopes to reach 100.
Launched last December, the satellite delivered service already broadcasts 32 HD channels including a mux of seven MBC channels. The DTH service broadcasts solely in HD.
Mohammed Yousef, CEO of YahLive, said during MIP: “About 600 free-to-air channels are available in the Middle east, but our market survey in six countries showed that most people only watch ten. So our aim is to make available a collection of 100 of the most watched channels, all in HD.”
YahSat attended MIPTV and was sponsoring several conference sessions to make broadcasters aware of the DTH service it offers.
YahLive broadcasts from the orbital position 52.5 degrees East. It is a joint venture between Yahsat and SES. YahLive offers DTH satellite services to free-to-air and pay-TV broadcasters to more than two dozen countries in the Middle East, North Africa and South West Asia.
