The number of IPTV users reached 14 million in China in January this year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
China began the construction of IPTV In 2004, when China Telecom and the Shanghai Media Group put IPTV in commercial operation in Guangdong, Shanghai and other cities. In the same year, China Netcom also opened IPTV commercial system in Heilongjiang and Liaoning.
The Ministry of Industry has revealed that the number of IPTV users has reached 14 million, and users of mobile TV has topped over 52 million, reports CN Broadcasting.
With 14 million users after eight years, with an average of less than 500,000 users in each province, the development of IPTV in China was slow.
The market research report shows that the number of global IPTV subscribers is still in rapid growth. The number of IPTV subscribers in 2015 is expected to reach 105.1 million, and 2011 the number of users was 53 million, with the annual compound growth rate of 18.7%.
The report also showed that the IPTV growth surpassed the cable and satellite TV service, expected service revenues will increase from $21.8 billion in 2011 to $45.3 billion, with the annual compound growth rate of 20%.
