SPI International gets smart on Samsung

April 2, 2012 11.24 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Samsung and SPI International have signed a Pan-European content partnership that will deliver extensive film and TV services to Europe on connected TV sets.

The service will launch with FilmBox Live, which offers over 2000 movies from SPI International’s library including a wide variety of television programming.

“We are committed to adding high quality video services to Samsung Smart TV throughout Europe and FilmBox Live is a fantastic addition to the platform,” said Dan Saunders, director of content services for Samsung Europe. “With SPI International’s range of programming we have expanded the level of premium video on demand content available and are delighted to announce this partnership.”

FilmBox Live is available as a monthly subscription service and includes seven channels available in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria and Spain from April 2012, with Czech Republic and Slovakia to follow in July of this year. The channels draw their content selectively from leading US and European production companies offering television series as well as more than 300 movie premieres every year.

As part of the partnership a further three channels will be made available soon as individual applications across all of Europe; FightBox HD, FashionBox HD and DocuBox HD. FightBox HD places viewers inside the ring of mixed martial arts, boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, and other fightingdisciplines. FashionBox HD features fashion shows, catwalks and magazine programmes whileDocuBox HD brings audiences an unforgettable collection of wildlife and nature content to thrill viewers of all ages with a selection of award winning documentaries.

Exclusively available to customers in to Poland will be an additional two channels from the Kino Polska TV brand. Devoted to promoting Polish cinematography, Kino Polska TV presents masterpieces of Polish renowned filmmakers as well as popular TV series, music videos and original programming.
