VideoWeb launches OTT STBs for international markets

March 17, 2012 10.24 Europe/London By Robert Briel

VideoWeb, a German OTT service provider, is launching its new B12 product line of OTT set top boxes for the international markets. The company will be showcasing its new product at IP&TV World (booth 254) in London.

The company’s new B12 platform offers an STB platform including internet technologies to run OTT services. B12 includes latest hardware technology and software components like HTML4/5/CE-HTML browser, QT-client, HbbTV, DLNA and an advanced OTT media player. In addition, B12 supports latest Hollywood approved streaming technologies (e.g. Smooth Streaming, HLS, BitBand, MPEG DASH) and DRM solutions such as DRM10, PlayReady, HLS-DRM and Secure Media.

The B12 platform already runs over 100 OTT applications including VOD services, catch-up TV services, online video recording, IPTV/OTT “FreeTV”, as well as pay-TV Services and web-browser functionality.

“Based on our three years of experience in the consumer electronic market with OTT set top boxes, providing more than 100 OTT applications to our users, B12 is our next generation, low-cost platform for the OEM market”, said Oliver Soellner, VP business development of VideoWeb. “The B12 platform is the ideal solution for all OTT companies, which do want to have their own STB product without any worry about technology and to avoid project complexity. Our platform is retail and end-user proven and extremely easy to use.”

B12 was designed for OTT providers and internet companies. It offers short project cycles, short production lead times and includes life-cycle management, ongoing software maintenance and service updates.

VideoWeb sells its STBs under its own brand in Germany and just recently also in Switzerland. Services available via the VideoWeb portal include the streaming live TV service Zattoo and the German VOD service Maxdome.
