TVP denies mobile TV deal

March 16, 2012 08.56 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish public broadcaster TVP has denied that it has reached an agreement for the carriage of its thematic channels on the upcoming mobile TV service TV MOBILNA to be launched by Cyfrowy Polsat.

In a statement, the company dismisses a report by Presserwis to the effect that Info TV FM, the Cyfrowy Polsat-owned company whose infrastructure the service will use, will carry channels such as TVP Sport and TVP Seriale on what will be the country’s fourth DTT multiplex.

Cyfrowy Polsat plans to launch TV MOBILNA, initially with an offer of eight TV channels and 12 radio stations, in the second quarter of this year.

In a separate development, TVP has announced that the revenues it received from receiver licences in 2011 amounted to PLN205.4 million (€49.6 million) and were the lowest in its history.

They covered only 12.6% of its costs, with PLN159.4 million of the total allocated to its 16 regional centres. TVP’s revenues from commercial activities in 2011 were PLN1.157 billion, down from PLN1,236 billion the previous year.
