The Russian digital set-top box market appears to have stagnated following several years of strong growth.
Figures produced by J’Son & Partners and published by AKTR and Digit.ru show that the number sold last year amounted to 2.5 million and was unchanged on that in 2010.
At the same time, sales were worth $151 million (€115.7 million) and are this year projected to increase by $1 million, due mostly to the withdrawal of subsidies for boxes.
Demand for DTH receivers has held up well, while that for IPTV ones has risen considerably, over the last couple of years.
Total sales in 2011 amounted to 1.6 million for DTH, 300,000 for cable and 600,000 for IPTV.
Demand for digital set-top boxes is now expected to start gradually declining as the take-up of connected TVs and enabled mobile devices grows.
