The Irish public broadcaster RTE has opted for Eutelsat’s KA-SAT to ensure its Saorsat FTA digital service is received throughout the country.
At present, around 1-2% of households in Ireland are beyond the range of DTT reception.
KA-SAT is dedicated exclusively to Ireland and will distribute RTE’s five channels – RTE One, RTE Two HD, RTE News Now, RTE junior and RTE One+1 – and 10 radio stations, with additional capacity available for future services.
To receive Saorsat viewers will require a satellite dish with Ka-band LNB and DVB-S2 set top box, retailing for around €200.
