Frankfurt to host 2012 MTV Awards EMA

March 12, 2012 13.53 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Frankfurt will be the host city of the 2012 MTV EMA, MTV’s global awards show, that will broadcast live from the city’s historic Festhalle on Sunday, November 11, 2012.

Following last year’s show in Belfast, the MTV EMA is returning to Frankfurt for the second time in the franchise’s history (the show was held there in 2001). MTV EMA was first held in 1994.

“We’re thrilled to be returning to Frankfurt and once again presenting the MTV EMA in such a vibrant and dynamic city,” said Bob Bakish, president and CEO, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN). “The MTV EMA is without a doubt one of the biggest nights in music on the planet and showcases talent from the US to Europe to Asia to everywhere in between. This year’s show in Frankfurt will definitely continue the EMA tradition of capturing the world’s attention through unforgettable performances and jaw-dropping moments.”

MTV also announced two confirmed sponsors: Replay will be an official pan-European sponsor of the “2012 MTV EMA.” Renaissance Hotels will be a digital sponsor for the UK, Germany and France.

Dan Ligtvoet, EVP and managing director, VIMN Northern Europe, added: “It is such a tremendous honour to host the MTV EMA in Germany. We’re looking forward to our partnership with the city of Frankfurt and are proud to stage the show in Festhalle – which now holds the commendable distinction of being the only venue to ever host the MTV EMA twice.”

The Lord Mayor of Frankfurt, Dr. Petra Roth said: “We’re proud that MTV has chosen Frankfurt as the host city for the 2012 MTV EMA, an event that truly reflects what only MTV is capable of: hosting world class, global music events that draw fans from all over. We’re excited to have Frankfurt in the spotlight again!”
