CABLE CONGRESS 2012 – BRUSSELS. Liberty Global president and CEO Mike Fries has restated the company’s commitment to Romania.
In a wide-ranging video interview with Broadband TV News, he said that, “we are at this point in time planning to stay in that market. We don’t have any M&A transactions imminent and we don’t have any conversations that are active”.
He added that last year Romania was in fact Liberty’s best performing market relative to budget despite being one half of one percent of its business.
Moreover, the management team there had done a “terrific job not just to stabilise the business but bring it back to a growth phase”.
Fries said that Liberty had learnt a lot of lessons in Romania, where the market is highly competitive and with low ARPU and regulatory frameworks that are not enforced.
Commenting on the possible rollout of Horizon in its CEE market, Fries said that there was currently no timetable and a lot would depend on how quickly the company can make the service cloud-based and therefore more economical.
