CABLE CONGRESS 2012 – BRUSSELS. UPC is preparing to ramp up the number of homes currently trialling its Horizon service as the Liberty Global-owned operator prepares to launch in four of its territories, Liberty Global President and CEO Mike Fries has told Broadband TV News in a video interview.
“We have 100s of boxes in the field and we’re about to go to 1000s in terms of a real field trial, so we’re very encouraged,” said Fries.
Interviewed at Cable Congress in Brussels, Fries explained that the multiscreen elements that have recently received prominence in Liberty’s presentations had always been on the agenda. “Multiscreen has always been in our plans to have at the time of launch an iPad app and a terrific over-the-top service.”
He added that the introduction of the cloud was a recently development, but it had been planned to add services in the cloud where possible, reducing the per box cost.
