MTV Mobile has launched its MTV Under The Thumb app claiming it provides fans with ultimate control of the MTV content they love.
MTV viewers can watch shows on-the-go or ‘pair’ their mobile device with any web browser on a computer, for an experience that turns their mobile phone into a fully functional remote control/second screen.
They can also link with Facebook and share their favourite shows, encouraging others to join in watching, as well as enjoy exclusive content.
MTV Under The Thumb will initially launch for iOS and Android in Germany, Holland, Belgium and Switzerland.
The app, which was developed by Viacom and AKQA, is initially being launched free on iOS and Android in Europe with additional subscription models for premium content.
Celebrity news, MTV highlights and limited episodes are available on the freely accessible ‘Tiny Thumbs’ section, while ‘Super Thumb’ unlocks extra shows and series for €2.99 per month or €29.99 a year.
A third level of access called ‘Ultra Thumb’ gives users who have an MTV Mobile handset contract free access to all shows.
MTV said 2.7 million people currently use its mobile products across seven countries in Europe, and MTV Under The Thumb merges the features of several existing apps under one roof.
