German regional telecommunications provider Ewe Tel’s ‘online TV’ service is now expanding to tablets, phones and TV sets.
Until now, Ewe Tel was offering a streaming TV service to its DSL customers, which could only be viewed on computer screens. Now, the service streams to both iOs and Android tablets and phones as well as TV sets with an Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection.
Ewe Tel employs technology from Berlin-based TVNext with its Video Management System (VMS), which coordinates the streaming to various devices, the VOD portal and includes a payment module as well as the EPG.
“Already over 200,000 registered customers have opted for our TV service,” said Markus Schulte-Berndt, product manager at Ewe Tel. ” With the support of our technology partner TVNext we want to fulfil the needs of our customers even better. Therefore, we have expanded with our “Online TV Plus” the scope of services and enable our subscribers to use a flexible devices like the iPad, Android Tablets – as well as the more traditional TV.”
Christian Borsi, managing director at TVNext Solutions, added: “We are delighted with the success of Ewe Tel’s Online TV and the extension to Online TV Plus using the IPTV solutions from TVNext. The good response of the Ewe customers shows that new media are accepted more quickly with a clear added value.”
In its basic version, Online TV offers over 40 streaming channels from both public and private broadcasters. In addition, an Online TV Plus bouquet is available comprising more channels including HD. The Online TV service also includes an EPG and a VOD section with premium movies.
Ewe Tel services around 640,000 homes in Northern Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen and parts of Brandenburg and North-Rhine Westphalia). Around 200,000 have already signed up for the streaming service at a cost of EUR1.99 a month for the basic bouquet.
