Increased use of cross-selling between Canal+ and Canal+ pushed up subscriber revenues at the French pay-TV platform in 2011, but the group took a €30 million hit from the French Competition Authority from the 2007 TPS acquisition.
Canal+ Group’s revenues reached €4,857 million, a 3.1% increase compared to 2010.
Domestically, Canal+ France’s revenues increased by 2.4% to €4,049 million, notably driven by increases in the subscription portfolio, revenue per subscriber (ARPU) and advertising revenues.
As of December 2011, Canal+ France had 11.216 million subscriptions, a net increase of 158,000 year-on-year. In mainland France, the subscription portfolio increased and reached 9.760 million. ARPU was up €1.2 year-on-year, reaching €47.5.
Abroad, strong growth in Africa boasted Canal+ Overseas, while performance in Vietnam and Poland took Canal+ Group’s portfolio at the end of 2011 had 12.946 million subscriptions.
Canal+ Group’s EBITA of €701 million was a 1.6% increase year-on-year, but excludes the €30 million fine from L’Autorité de la concurrence after Canal failed to keep to a number of commitments, such as the unbundling of a suite of seven channels.
