Sky Italia is downloading a new software release to its satellite subscribers, at the same time preparing them for over-the-top delivered content.
The software upgrade refreshes the look and feel of the programme guide with a new high definition interface, the mini TV window remains, allowing content to continue to be viewed during EPG operation; a ‘search engine’ that covers the whole gamut of services and an enhanced parental control.
At the same time, Sky-It is also activating the ability of the receiver to receive OTT content through its Ethernet port; a service that mirrors BSkyB’s Sky Anytime+ and turns the receiver into a hybrid device to receive further content.
The automatic upgrade will take place when the receiver is in standby mode – typically overnight – and will be delivered to all compatible My Sky HD STBs (Samsung 990 N/V, BSkyB 890, Pace 865). The new operating system will be loaded gradually, by the end of March, depending on the type of STB.
My Sky HD was initially introduced in June 2008 and incorporates the NDS XTV personal video recorder system.
